![]() ![]() I could go on, but my point is Rics are not like other guitars. I have got it down now to about three hours (full cleaning and string change), but I rarely do it. Changing strings on a 12 string is insane and damages your guitar. And then if you had to clip the string ends.good luck with that being that the string ends were deep in those gullies. There are slots in them now, but for decades Ric had gullies in the headstock - meaning you had to cut each string precisely to the right length otherwise the string would dig into the wood of your headstock. The tailpiece is not attached, it floats! Try changing strings on that. ![]() Tailpiece is not attached to the guitar like normal guitars and, boy, does that add on the time to change strings. Oh, and changing your strings on a 12 string Ric? WTF!!!!!!!!!!!! First time I did it, it took, no exaggeration, eight hours. For decades you could not even buy strings for your Ric!!! Ric came up with some insane string gauge and in order to re-string your Ric you had to buy two or three packs of strings of various gauges and then take one or two strings from one pack, one or two from another to re-string your Ric according to the factory standard.Ħ. The uniformity of the sound could not be achieved. You just had to accept the fact that your G B or E string was going to be so loud it will break every window in your house. For years you could not adjust polepieces on your pickups. CEO Hall is deathly afraid of counterfeiters and because of that his customers must pay an insane price for stuff.Ĥ. You have to give them yours and only then will they sell you one. Three hundred dollars for a piece of plastic that doesn't affect any thing about the guitar and its tone! If your R tailpiece breaks.you can not buy one from Ric. Because the CEO is a paranoid freak, parts like a simple plastic twenty dollar truss rod cover will cost you, no joke, $200 - $300. One cool thing about that, the darn thing was literally only a few days old when I got it.ģ. Just so happened Ric was starting a production run on those and my Ric only took four months to get to me. I was lucky with my Midnight Blue (a not very popular color). If a store does not have what you want in stock in the backroom.you are looking at a very long wait for your guitar. Two years before you get your guitar! Ric sets up their factory to make a run of a certain model and it may be a year or more before they get to what you may want. Rickenbacker? A two year wait is not abnormal. Go right now to any store and you can get the Fender, Gibson you want. ![]() A price! Go to any online music site.they do not list prices. You can't even get a simple thing as a price for a Rickenbacker guitar. Some of this you non-Ric players will find amusing or flat out astonishing.ġ. Dealing with Rickenbackers is an entirely different ball game and if you are not aware of it, it will knock you out. Gibson, Fender, Gretsch, Ovation, Epiphone.you buy their gear, you play it. Rickenbacker and their guitars are the most frustrating thing in musical gear to deal with. ![]()
